7th annual barbecue returns to Grass Valley
August 15, 2013
Barbecue teams will fire up their grills Aug. 22 for the seventh annual United Way BBQ Battle, taking place at the Gold Miners Inn/Holiday Inn Express in Grass Valley.
The teams, including the Food Bank team, "Bradas of da Rack," Uptown Salon's Barber-Q-ers, Byer's Leafguard team "Byer's Smokin' Squirrels, Gold Country Community Services' "Grill Meisters" and "The Meat Spinners" are all preparing to compete for prizes in the United Way BBQ Battle. There will be meat-tastings of all types from baby back ribs to BBQ chicken. This is a great fun family event. There will be two judging categories — one decided by the populace and the other decided by a small group of "critic's choice" judges. This year, there will be a new category, the "United Way Team Spirit Award," which will be given to the team that embodies positive energy and creativity.
Entry in to the event is free. The cost for three tastes and a chance to cast a vote is $5. Enjoy live music from the group Sols while enjoying tasty barbecue. There will be some great raffle prizes, including a Hawaiian vacation getaway, complete wine bar and a portable grill. Tickets for the raffle are available now and during the event; you need not be present to win.
All proceeds from this event go to United Way of Nevada County's Community Investment Fund to be allocated to United Way's three community impact areas of education, income and health. The United Way of Nevada County's mission is to improve lives by directing community resources to community needs. For information go to http://uwnc.org or call 530-274-8111.
