Center offers experimental open mic

The Center for the Arts is calling all nerds, techies, electronics junkies and non-linear noise-makers for an open mic at 7 p.m. Sunday. This is not a typical coffee shop/bar open mic. This is an open mic for noise musicians and experimental artists with the general emphasis (if there was one, hypothetically) being on any unusual instruments, effects, composition, technology, sound, time signatures, songs and art forms you work with.

The Center invites you to relocate your living room “sound geeking” into the Off Center Stage for an evening. Check out what everyone else is up to in an open environment with interested, like-minded people you may not otherwise happen to meet or hang with. Art performance and experimental video are also welcome.

Whether you have a sound you’ve been perfecting (band or solo) or you just acquired a new gadget that you want to mess with, perhaps you’ve integrated new material into your DJ set or new styling on your vocal arrangement, or perhaps you want to experiment with an ambient set or a sound installation idea that’s been knocking around in your head … Whatever it is, we invite you to be your own weird science! Or just sit back and watch strange things unfold in front of you!

Spectators welcome.

Audio engineer and gadget master Ben Milner will be at the board helping everyone get hooked in and sounding awesome with the booming house sound system.

For smooth transitions and technical requirements, performers are asked to register ahead of time. You can also email your technical requirements to gro.straehtrofretneceht@nhazs. For information and performer notes, go to http://thecenterforthearts.org/experimental-open-mic/ or call 530-264-6900. TO register, go to https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dGd3VDNuYUZSSUtBSmdhQTZWWTA1enc6MA#gid=0.

There is a $5 suggested donation at the door. Sound check is from 4:30 to 7 p.m. The open mic will be at the Off Center Stage, 315 Richardson St. in Grass Valley.
