Man tased after alleged gun threat

A man who reportedly had been trying to break into his ex-girlfriend’s residence was tased by a Grass Valley Police officer after he told the officer he had a gun, then reached toward his waistband.

Patrick Donald Webb, 23, initially drew a response from Nevada County Sheriff’s deputies at about 12:30 a.m. Friday when they were called to a Greenhorn Road residence, said Sheriff Keith Royal.

A man from the 15000 block called 911 to report that his son was drunk and was yelling and screaming and causing a commotion, according to dispatch reports. Webb reportedly was angry because his father would not take him to town.

“He was trying to take the keys to the vehicle,” Royal said.

Webb was gone when deputes arrived and reportedly had walked away with no shoes or shirt.

At 1:15 a.m., a woman from the 200 block of Sutton Way called to report that Webb, her ex-boyfriend, was trying to take the screen off a window to get inside her apartment.

When a Grass Valley Police officer arrived, Webb was at the front door and was belligerent and non-compliant, said Police Sgt. Steve Johnson.

Webb then turned to face the officer but refused to put his hands up and move away from the door.

“He said, ‘I have a gun,’ and started to reach back toward his waistband,” Johnson said.

The officer tased Webb, but the suspect reportedly continued to fight. He was eventually taken into custody, and a search revealed he did not have a gun, Johnson said.

Webb was taken to the hospital for medical clearance and then booked into county jail on suspicion of felony resisting arrest and violating probation. He is being held in lieu of $10,750 bail.
