2 arrested on drug, gun charges

Narcotics detectives serving a search warrant for meth didn’t find any drugs — but ended up arresting a couple after determining they were under the influence and finding a hidden gun.

Nevada County Sheriff’s deputies served a search warrant at the residence in the 11000 block of Hidden Valley Road Wednesday afternoon, said Narcotics Task Force member John Dzioba.

Shawn Michelle Strong, 37, and Daniel Justin Dipietro, 36, were at the residence, along with their 5-year-old child.

They were both arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance, Dzioba said.

Deputies reportedly located hypodermic syringes and meth smoking pipes strewn around the residence. They also found a .45-caliber Taurus pistol in a locked container, concealed under some brush, Dzioba said.

The owner reportedly was contacted and confirmed it had been stolen several days prior, but she had not yet reported the theft.

Strong and Dipietro allegedly attempted to impede the investigation by repeatedly ordering the 5-year-old to “run away from the cops,” Dzioba said.

Strong was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and impeding a peace officer. She was booked and released on $1,750 bail.

Dipietro was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance, impeding a peace officer, possessing drug paraphernalia, possessing stolen property, and being in possession of a firearm illegally. He was booked and released on $12,750 bail.

The child was released to the care of a family member.
