Grass Valley man allegedly put gun against camper’s head

What started as verbal harassing between Bowman Lake campsites ended with one camper in the Nevada County Jail on felony charges for alleged crimes that include putting a gun to someone’s head, according to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Department’s records.

Grass Valley resident Adam Edward Hale, 30, remained in jail Sunday in lieu of $35,000 bail stemming from four separate felony charges of child endangerment, assault with a firearm, willful discharge of a firearm and making threats, according to the sheriff’s website.

At approximately 10:39 p.m. on Friday, a caller from Bowman Lake Campground reported that a man at a neighboring campsite who had been shooting off fireworks had been verbally abusive to the caller and his fellow campers, according to the sheriff’s daily activity logs. Afterward, the caller said that the man had came to the caller’s campground with a gun, held it to one of the caller’s friend’s head, then fired a shot into the ground.

After this, the caller said he rode his quad approximately eight miles to achieve cell phone reception, leaving his friends behind, in order to help direct an officer to the man with the gun.

The daily activity log indicates that a man was arrested Friday night, and the jail log indicates that Hale was booked into the county jail by 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

A sergeant at Nevada City’s polivr headquarters was unable to provide further information on the incident, noting that it had been handled by the sheriff’s Truckee substation, which had not yet completed its investigation, and that information would not likely be available until Monday.
