Nevada County sheriff’s deputies acting on a tip served a search warrant at an ex-felon’s residence on the San Juan Ridge, reportedly finding guns, ammo — and a battle mace.
Deputies went to the residence of Christopher Art Nunley in the 20000 block of Walls Flat Road Wednesday morning, said Sheriff Keith Royal.
Inside, they found two rifles, as well as ammunition, which were not legally owned by Nunley since he is a convicted felon, Royal said.
Nunley has a number of convictions, according to court records. His most recent felony case was in 2002, when he was charged with possessing a controlled substance; he also had earlier felony cases dating back to 1984.
His most recent misdemeanor case, in 2008, was for driving under the influence and possessing marijuana.
In Nunley’s residence, deputies also allegedly found what Royal described as a home-made battle mace, a spiked ball attached to a chain.
He was arrested on suspicion of being an ex-felon with a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition, and possessing the mace.
He was being held in county jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
