A suicide victim found in a Sierra County campground has been identified as a Grass Valley veteran, according to Sierra County Sheriff John Evans.
At about 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Sierra County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a foul smell and possible dead body in a camping tent above Sierra City, Evans said in a press release. The location was at Snag Lake Campground of the Tahoe National Forest, which is adjacent to Gold Lake Road in the central/northern area of Sierra County.
Deputies found the remains of a man who had been dead for several weeks, Evans said. An associated vehicle and other items returned to a man identified as Carl C. Rahn, 62. An autopsy was conducted and in coordination with the investigation, the cause of death was confirmed as a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. Rahn’s identity was confirmed and his family members have been notified.
