Sounds of summer: Sunday concert brings Beach Boys, Beatles

Sunday at Western Gateway Park, two tribute bands will take the stage at the outdoor amphitheater.

Mike Amaral’s California Beach Boys will start off at 5 p.m., then a brief intermission before the Beatles band Because begins the second half of the concert.

“I just recently went to a couple of concerts where these bands played,” said John Zurflueh of Starbright Entertainment. “Not only do they play the music with such accuracy, they have fun on stage and with the audience. When I hear both of these bands, I am always reminded how much fun this music is to listen to. For those of us who grew up with it, we have the great memories. For those younger, they are introduced to music history in a live stage performance with bands that replicate the period outfits and equipment the original groups used.”

Patrons can relax on the lawn of the Penn Valley park while listening to the sounds of the ’60s and ’70s on a state-of-the-art sound system.

The event benefits Welcome Home Vets. Food will be available for purchase from Smiley Guys Smokehouse, the Old 5Mile House and Lazy Dog. The Grass Valley Chamber of Commerce will sell wine, beer and soft drinks.

Gates, food and bar open at 4 p.m. with music starting at 5 p.m.

Tickets are $30 and available at SPD Markets, Clock Tower Records, The Book Seller, Real Graphic Source at Highway 49, Grass Valley and Penn Valley Chambers, Tri Counties Bank at Wildwood or at the gate. There will also be $20 tickets for those 20 and younger available at the gate.
