NCArts presents an artists’ salon series

Nevada County Arts will offer a new Professional Artists’ Salon Series at the Center for the Arts beginning May 14.

The new event is a series of talks by professional artists who make a sustainable living in the world of art, showing and selling their work. If you would like to take the leap to becoming a full-time working artist, come and find out how these artists have achieved their dream. These selected artists have agreed to share their knowledge in the art of self-promotion, gaining access to galleries and finding the right market place for their art.

The first salon will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. May 14 and will feature painter Christine Hayman. Chris’s work is in galleries around the country including New York, Washington, D.C., Atlanta and many more. She will share her amazing abstract paintings and tell you how she came to be collected by major corporations and collectors around the globe. You can view her work at http://haymanart.com.

The second artist appearing, June 5, is Jude Bischoff who creates powerful oil, acrylic and mixed-media paintings that channel the very essence of nature. Jude’s extensive sales background and unique marketing approach will lend insight to the practical side of the “business of art.” Jude’s work can be viewed at http://judebischoff.com.

On June 18, the third presentation will feature painter, printmaker and illustrator Richard Downs. As a commercial and fine artist, Richard creates media and conceptually appropriate images for business clients and collectors. His award-winning work has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Communication Arts and numerous other publications and children’s books — and on the educational DVD’s for the technology company Lynda.com. Richard is presently a faculty member of the Applied Art and Design department of Sierra College teaching Illustration and his work can be viewed at http://downs-art.com.

The two final artists appearing July 9 are Solomon Bassoff and Domenica Mottarella, sculptors who work with cement and glass mosaic. Solomon and Domenica are civic artists whose work can be found in many cities, zoos, parks and playgrounds — as well as in numerous books and other publications. They believe that the best civic art forges a connection between people and their environment, and Solomon states, “Civic art communicates the ideals, dreams and goals of a community, to those who experience it.”

Their work can be viewed at http://faducci.com

The advance admission for each event in the series is $15 general admission, $10 for NCArts members and free for students with valid student ID. The price at the door will be $20 general admission and $15 for NCArts members. If you have any questions about the Salon Series, contact Jude Bischoff at salons@nevadacountyarts.org or 760-668-9408.

This series is presented by NCArts, in the ongoing effort to educate, inform and support the artists of Nevada County.
