Transient fight damages vehicle, Nevada City business

A melee between transients caused a chain reaction that resulted in significant damage to a downtown Nevada City business, according to law enforcement officials.

The incident unfolded after a young unidentified female pulled a four-door Toyota SUV into the parking lot of a business in downtown Nevada City, said Nevada City Police Department Officer Scott Goin.

While the female exited the vehicle, a fight between transients erupted, and one combatant was thrown headlong into the parked vehicle.

The female panicked and exited the vehicle quickly, apparently neglecting to put the vehicle in park, Goin said. The vehicle then rolled down hill and smashed into the front of the Bonanza Market located on Broad Street. One of the doors of the business was completely ripped off, and the exterior of the building was damaged. The door has since been replaced.

No criminal charges were pursued against the female driver, and insurance is expected to take care of the damage to the building, Goin said.

Upon arrival, the aggressors in the transient fight had fled the scene, and police were unable to locate the perpetrators, Goin said.
