Prep roundup: Bear River struggles on road, falls to Lincoln

The Bear River Bruins fell behind 6-0 early to Pioneer Valley League foe Lincoln, and never recovered, losing 7-1 Friday on the Fighting Zebra’s home diamond.

“(Lincoln’s runs) were all early,” Bear River head coach Dahorl Ennis said. “We just couldn’t climb out of that hole.”

Despite getting roughed up early, Andrew Reiss settled down and threw a complete game. Reiss allowed only one run after the second inning, but got very little run support.

Providing the offense for the Bruins was Jake Sypnicki with a hit and an RBI, Ryan Anderson added a double, Tyler Toft ripped a single, Brodie Beck chipped in a base knock and Brandon Donley came through with a pinch-hit single.

The Bruins (7-9, 2-4 PVL) get back to work today when they take on Nevada Union in a non-league game at 3 p.m. on the Miners’ Diamond.

Freshmen: Nevada Union 13, Yuba City 5

The Miners got a strong effort on the mound and timely hitting Friday as they toppled Yuba City by eight runs.

Cain Lackey pitched five impressive innings for NU, and Ryan Bradshaw locked down the sixth and seventh to close the door on the Honkers.

Weston Gaddis led the offensive charge for NU with a pair of doubles and five RBIs. Lackey and Schnitzius each tallied two hits and Austin Butler ripped a double.

“It was nice to play again and get some quality baseball I,” said coach Craig Fleenor in an email.

The Miners (7-5) open up Sierra Foothill League play next week.
