The Center for the Arts will offer workshops designed to educate people on how theater works. This year the nonprofit arts organization will offer two writing/producing/performing workshops for the mature set.
These workshops are presented by Scott Ewing — artistic director of Quest Theaterworks. Ewing has been creating professional theater since his work with the Reduced Shakespeare Company beginning in 1987.
For Grandma’s Wisdom, women of substance with something to say are invited to come together to create a living tapestry of motherly love. The goal is to weave together experiences to create a special pre-Mother’s Day performance for the entire family. This workshop meets from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays for the eight weeks leading up to Mother’s Day and the performance will be the day before Mother’s Day, May 11, at the Center for the Arts. Participants will work together in telling their stories and creating a performance piece.
For On Grandad’s Knee, gentlemen will have a chance to share pearls of wisdom with the world. Participants will put together a unique collection of experiences and create an engaging show to delight and enlighten in a pre-Father’s Day performance for the entire family. This workshop meets from 9 a.m. to noon Thursdays for the eight weeks prior to Father’s Day with a performance June 15 at the Center for the Arts.
Ewing is a graduate of Pepperdine University with a triple-emphasis degree in acting, directing and technical theater. He was the managing producer for the Reduced Shakespeare Company. With the RSC, he brought the production to 40 states and nine countries. He has produced and directed many local theatrical productions, including “How I Learned To Drive,” “The Full Monty” and “Next To Normal.” He is currently producing and directing “A Season of Surprises” with Quest Theaterworks at its new venue at the Oddfellows Lodge in Grass Valley. When working with actors, whether young or old, a novice or veteran, Ewing enjoys crafting a theatrical experience that is inspiring and enriching to all who participate.
The cost for each eight-week session is $160. Register at the Center for the Arts Box Office at 530-274-8384 or online at http://thecenterforthearts.org.
