Off Broadstreet latest production hits the stage this weekend

Off Broadstreet’s latest release, “Forever Meadow Green,” an original musical comedy revue by theater owner John Driscoll, opens Friday. The production will show at 8:15 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through April 20 with one Sunday matinee performance at 2 p.m. March 24.

Big-hearted hippie florist Meadow Green and two cranky 90-year-old retired doo-wop singers perform in her 2013 World Earth Day Celebration at her Morro Bay nursery, The Immortal Soil. Joining them is Meadow’s profit-oriented fraternal twin, Harmony, who deplores her sister’s tendency to “give everything away.” In spite of conflicting objectives and musical tastes, as well as “generation gap” obstacles, the resulting program is a songfest with familiar tunes from several eras.

“Forever Meadow Green” features the talents of well known Off Broadsteet performer Kris Stepanian as “Last Ditch Idol” winner Meadow Green. She is joined by returning Off Broadstreet veterans Chris Crockett and Darryl Stines as Hank and Karl from “Put Another Nickel In.” Rounding out the cast as Meadow’s cynical sister, Harmony, is accomplished vocalist Kate Haight, making her second appearance after her 2012 debut as Carol in “Angry Housewives.”

Musical selections include 1950s favorites like “Sh-Boom,” “This Old House,” “Little Darlin’” and “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On” as well as later hits like “Big Yellow Taxi,” “I Dig Rock & Roll Music” and “All You Need is Love” and more recent releases by Kelly Clarkson, Bob Marley, The Who and others. With plenty of laughs and music, Forever Meadow Green is suitable for all audiences.

Admission is $25 ($23 this Friday and Saturday and for the Sunday matinee). Opening Night Friday features complimentary champagne reception after the show. Reservations are required for all performances. Please call 530-265-8686 or email john@offbroadstreet.com
