‘Genetic Roulette’ to screen as part of Second Sunday Film Series

This weekend, the Peace Center will screen “Genetic Roulette” for its March Second Sunday Film Series offering.

When the United States government ignored repeated warnings by its own scientists and allowed untested genetically modified crops into the environment and food supply, it was a gamble of unprecedented proportions. The health of all living things and their future generations were put at risk with this new technology.

“These foods are not regulated, controlled or tested for safety by the FDA. Safety is determined only by the manufacturer ... and the main producer of GMO crops and food is Monsanto, which has misled the public in the past by marketing DDT, Agent Orange and PCBs as safe,” according to http://aboutgmo.com/blog/.

After two decades, physicians and scientists have uncovered a grave trend. The same serious health problems found in lab animals, livestock and pets that have been fed genetically modified foods are now on the rise among Americans. Why are there 61 countries banning GMOs or making mandatory labeling laws for them? And why isn’t the United States one of them? This seminal documentary provides compelling evidence to help explain our deteriorating health, especially among our children, and offers a recipe for protecting ourselves and our future.

There will be a facilitated discussion following the film. Popcorn and refreshments will be served. There is a suggested donation of $5 to $10 although no one will be turned away. All proceeds benefit the Peace Center of Nevada County and the Social Action Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Community of the Mountains. The film begins at 7 p.m. Sunday at UUCM, 246 S. Church St., Grass Valley. For more about the film, go to http://geneticroulettemovie.com/.
