Male classical quartet performs Sunday

For a community rich in choral ensembles and incredible music, this may be the perfect presentation. On Sunday afternoon, InConcert Sierra will present New York Polyphony, a male classical quartet founded in 2006, with a musical range that spans centuries and performances that reach across the globe while breathing new life into early music. Acclaimed for its fresh and exciting medieval polyphony, the group is known for its uniquely modern sensibility, medieval melodies and cutting-edge contemporary works.

“This is a unique opportunity to explore the voice as a specialized instrument by one of the world’s finest vocal ensembles. Polyphony, by definition, is a style of composition that has many voices, each with its own melody, thus creating a rich texture of sound. Hearing this exceptional group singing in the amazing acoustic of the Seventh-day Adventist Church will completely enhance the experience of voice texturing. I’ve been excited about this concert since the day artistic director Ken Hardin brought NYP to our attention over three years ago,” said Julie Hardin, executive director.

“I encourage anyone even remotely curious about this performance to check out New York Polyphony on youtube. They will blow you away,” said Hardin.

This concert is sponsored by Pleasant Valley Veterinary Center (Steve Nicholson and Dr. Mimi Vishoot), Ken Getz and Peter Mason and Rod and Susan Fivelstad. There will be a pre-concert forum hosted by Dr. Aileen James.

Youth under 17 are free with an adult to InConcert Sierra chamber concerts. This performance offers high school students the opportunity to review the performance and submit their reviews to InConcert. The winning submission will receive a $100 prize and publication in The Union. This project is a collaborative effort of InConcert Sierra, The Union and Nevada County Library.
