Beaucoup Chapeaux spread art, joy

Find a full moon and a little bit of Europe in Nevada City and Grass Valley this weekend. Euro café quartet Beaucoup Chapeaux will play from 6:30 to 8:30 both Friday and Saturday night.

In the four years it has been together, the group has earned a reputation for both its artistic skills as well as the joy it creates when playing together.

“Beaucoup Chapeaux has created a very magical niche with this music. It’s a feel, an ambiance, something lovers can whisper behind and get up and dance to. It is so much Parisian bistro or Italian cafe, part circus, and is very eccentric and all of that we love about it! Bravo, Beaucoup Chapeaux!” said Eleanore MacDonald in CD Baby Reviews.

Or as another reviewer wrote: “If you like your music with an old-world European quality and played straight from the hip with no excuses, look no further as this will be your cup-o’-tea and then some!” said Mikail Graham in his KVMR Radio “Top Picks” for 2012.

Quartet members are Maggie McKaig on accordion and vocals, Luke Wilson on tenor guitar, plectrum banjo and vocals, Murray Campbell on violin, oboe and vocals and Randy McKean on clarinet, bass clarinet, piccolo and vocals.

On Friday, Beaucoup Chapeaux will be at its fairly regular gig at the Nevada City Classic Café, 216 Broad St. On Saturday night, the band will make its second appearance at the Grass Valley Wine Company., 128 Mill St.
