After being closed for the majority of Thursday, Highway 20 between Nevada City and Interstate 80 is open again.
The crucial commute route opened at 3 a.m. Friday morning, said Gilbert Mohtes-Chan, spokesman for Caltrans.
The entire stretch of Highway 20 has been closed from Dow Road to Interstate 80 since 7:10 a.m. Thursday morning due to a traffic accident and a downed power pole, Mohtes-Chan said.
Pacific Gas & Electric Co. and AT&T crews responded to the incident and conducted repairs, which proved to be more extensive and complicated than initially expected, accounting for the length of closure, Mohtes-Chan said.
The utility companies had to await the transportation of a new pole, as the tower struck in the crash was no longer usable, Mohtes-Chan said. They then worked at reattaching the wires.
No chain controls are in effect for Highway 20 Friday morning, Mohtes-Chan said, and the majority of state routes throughout the mountains are essentially clear.
