Beaucoup Chapeaux will perform two shows this weekend. From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Beaucoup Chapeaux will be at the Nevada City Classic Cafe, its primary local venue for the past four years. And then from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday night, the band will make its first appearance at the Grass Valley Wine Company.
Beaucoup Chapeaux, led by Maggie McKaig on accordion and vocals, features Luke Wilson on tenor guitar, plectrum banjo and vocals, Murray Campbell on violin, oboe, English horn and vocals and Randy McKean on clarinet, bass clarinet, piccolo and vocals.
They play what has been described as “hauntingly wild and beautiful music.” An audience might hear tunes once played by Django Reinhardt or songs sung by Edith Piaf. They might also hear pop, folk, musette, music of the Balkans, Brazil, or Europe’s cafes — all imaginatively re-interpreted — as well as their own eclectic and dramatic original pieces.
The intrepid quartet has performed together more than 350 times in the last four and a half years and toured throughout California, Oregon and Washington.
The Nevada City Classic Cafe is located at 216 Broad St.
