Jamal Walker & Loose Change to perform at the Center

Jamal Walker & Loose Change have become one of the busiest bands in the area.

You may have seen them this summer at the Nevada County Fair or on the Fourth of July at the fairgrounds or maybe danced in the street to their music at Grass Valley’s Thursday Night Market. You’ll have another chance to dance when Jamal Walker & Loose Change come to the Center for the Arts Friday as part of the Center’s Homegrown Music Series.

Nevada County has long been know for the high quality of its music scene. World-class performers, including Joanna Newsome, The Lonely Kings, Golden Shoulders, Alela Diane and many more, got their start performing locally.

The Center’s Homegrown Music Series allows artists a chance to refine their craft and showcase their music. Providing opportunities for developing talent is a key part of the Center for the Arts mission.

Founded in 2007 by guitarist Ronnie Talbott, Jamal Walker & Loose Change have become a favorite in the Northern California foothills music scene. They play blues, soul and rock ‘n’ roll along with powerfully original songs that are sure to get you on your feet and singing along.

“We’re really looking forward to playing at the Center — it’s a great venue,” Talbott says. “We’ve held off on local gigs so that the fans will be ready to rock on Friday night.”

Their debut CD, “Evenin’ News,” came out in 2010. The band is beginning work on a new CD scheduled for release in 2013.

Jamal Walker & Loose Change plays steadily at clubs and fundraisers in Northern California. They have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with some of the greatest blues musicians around, including Tommy Castro, Walter Trout, Laurie Morvan and many more.

The band includes Jamal Walker (vocals), Ronnie Talbott (guitar and vocals), Sam Camillucci (keyboards and vocals), Mike Blackston (drums) and Joe Thayer (bass).
