A short documentary film about volunteer firefighters, “Volunteer Heroes,” will premier at the North San Juan 150th year celebration at 3 p.m. Saturday at the North San Juan Community Fire Hall.
The story of volunteer firefighters is told through the North San Juan Fire Department.
“My interest in volunteer fighters happened when I went to the NSJ Fire Department to borrow a tool to remove Scotch broom,” says filmmaker Richard Gross. “I became a volunteer and was amazed at everyone’s commitment for no pay. When I found out 70 percent of all firefighters in the U.S. are volunteers, I thought it would make a good story.”
Local filmmakers Craig Rohrsen and Gary Dini worked with Gross on the 15-minute film.
The fire hall is located at 10057 Reservoir St., North San Juan. Admission is free.
