The Nevada County Amateur Radio Club held a field-day event on June 23 and 24 at Empire Mine.
More than 375 contacts with amateur radio stations all over the United States were made using alternative power sources for the radio equipment.
The highlight of Saturday afternoon was a contact with Croatia amateur radio operators on 20 meters using a homemade antenna.
The field-day event was well received by the community and visited on both days of the event with a lot of interest in being licensed for amateur radio.
Nevada County Amateur Radio Club member Richard Miller credited Sierra Motor Sports for the loan of a Honda generator and the California State Parks Department, Empire Mine staff with making the field day one of the best the club has had.
Amateur radio works when no other form of communication will. Visit www.ncarc.org and www.arrl.org for more information.
