Edward “Ed” John Tellam of Grass Valley, passed away on Friday, Feb. 4, 2012 with his family by his side. He was 84.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Grass Valley Veterans Memorial Building
Graveside services will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
Ed was born Nov. 15, 1927, in Michigan. He served in the U.S. Air Force. In 1949, he married the love of his life, Lillian Lucille Fendley.
Ed worked as a teamster for local concrete and gravel companies for over 25 years. He served on the Grass Valley City Council from 1969 to 1977, became vice mayor from 1971 to 1972 and served as mayor of Grass Valley from 1973 to 1977. He became an honorary member of the Grass Valley Volunteer Fire Department where he served actively for over 25 years.
He enjoyed the 49er C.B. Radio Club and hunting.
He is survived by his daughter, Meredith Tellam-Harvey (Pat); brother, Joe Tellam (Shirley); grandsons, Robert Tellam, and Daniel Tellam; granddaughters, Stephanie Harvey-Statler, Claudia Harvey- Hodskins, and Jennifer Tellam-May of Auburn; great- grandsons, Craig and Cody Statler, and Nolan Hodkins; great-granddaughters, Taylor, Kendall and Jordan Hughes; and niece, Sherry Tellam-Chargin.
Ed is preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Tellam; sons, Brian and Keith Tellam; father, Branfrontein Tellam; mother, Bessie Tellam; and sister, Mary Lou Turner.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper & Weaver Mortuary.
