A Nevada City man died in a car accident early Tuesday when the vehicle he was driving veered off the road and struck a parked “dump truck”, law enforcement officials said.
Ryan Helfter, 19, of Nevada City was driving north on McCourtney Road at 2:30 a.m. and was traveling too fast to negotiate a curve near the intersection of Indian Springs Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Helfter lost control of the vehicle, which rotated clockwise before running off the east edge of the roadway, traversing a private gravel road and struck a large dump truck loaded with garbage, the report states.
After hitting the truck, Helfter's vehicle crashed down a steep embankment before coming to rest.
Helfter suffered blunt force head trauma, the CHP reported.
