The popular series “The Met: Live in HD” that has been screening at Sierra Cinemas will be moved to the historic Del Oro Theatre in downtown Grass Valley.
The move to the Art Deco movie house was made possible by the conversion in fall 2011 of the projection system there from 35mm film to digital. The conversion included installation of a new, larger screen in the main auditorium and improved digital sound.
“We've had numerous requests from our audience to move the program,” said Azriel LaMarca, daughter of Sierra Theaters owners Mike and Barbara Getz.
The first screening to be held at the Del Oro will be of “Götterdämmerung,” the conclusion of the Ring cycle directed by Robert LePage about star-crossed lovers. The series is cosponsored by Music in the Mountains. It will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, and the running time is about 6 hours, 24 minutes.
The Del Oro Theatre is at 165 Mill St.; tickets range from $15 to $22. Visit www.FathomEvents.com or www.SierraTheaters.com or call (530) 477-1100 for more information; advance tickets are available.
Coffee, sandwiches and the full snack bar will be available.
