SACRAMENTO – The California Department of Child Support Services (DCSS) recognized California's top performing local child support agencies (LCSAs) for Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2011, at its statewide directors meeting.
The Sierra/Nevada county child support agency ranked among the top 10 state agencies and was also recognized as one of the five most-improved, according to a news release.
The DCSS presented awards for LCSAs with the top overall performance, by caseload size, most improved performance on five federal performance measures, and dollars distributed directly to families.
DCSS presented honorees who attended the awards ceremony in Sacramento on Wednesday with framed certificates and letters of commendation.
“These awardees make California proud,” Interim DCSS Director Kathleen Hrepich said in a prepared statement. “Despite the challenges, these counties showed exceptional fortitude in meeting or exceeding their performance goals. Ultimately, it is California's families and children who benefit from these outstanding efforts.”
The special “Director's Excellence Award” was presented to three counties: San Bernardino, Kern, and Napa for exceeding all federal performance measures.
Five counties were honored for top overall performance. They ranked highest among their caseload size for outstanding performance in all federal performance measures: San Diego (very large county), Ventura (large), Sonoma (medium), San Luis Obispo (small) and Marin (very small).
Five child support agencies showed the most improvement in overall performance, by caseload size: San Diego (very large county), Ventura (large), Butte (medium), Sierra/Nevada (small) and Marin (very small).
Ten local child support agencies recognized as the “Top 10” represent 4.9 percent of the state's caseload and collected nearly $151.5 million that was distributed directly to families. They are: 1. San Luis Obispo, 2. Marin, 3. Humboldt, 3. Plumas, 5. Sierra/Nevada, 6.Ventura, 7. El Dorado, 8. Mariposa, 9. Sonoma and 10. Central Sierra (Amador/Alpine/Calaveras/Tuolumne).
Sierra/Nevada, ranked among the "Small" division of agencies, had 4,178 cases as of Nov. 2, 2011. (Sierra had 157 and Nevada had 4,021 cases as of 11/2/2011)
The agency ranked fifth as performing best out of the 51 LCSAs statewide on overall performance. It was also among the Most improved LCSA in overall performance among the 12 total small LCSAs in California's Child Support System.
This category recognizes the LCSA who achieved the greatest percentage increase over the prior year in collections distributed to families: Mariposa.
The California Department of Child Support Services and the 51 Local Child Support Agencies operate the largest child support system in the nation with approximately 1.4 million cases. In 2011, California's child support program collected and distributed more than $2.2 billion.
