Local theater director Sandra Rockman will provide two winter workshop classes beginning on Jan. 9. “Truth in Acting” uses monologue, scene study, improvisation and physical techniques to bring participants toward more in-the-moment credibility on stage. This class is for all skill levels and will be tailored for each individual's experience level. Two series begin early January. Class is from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Mondays from Jan. 9 to Feb. 27 or Tuesday evenings from Jan. 10 to Feb. 28. “Truth in Acting” takes place at Miners Foundry Cultural Center and is co-sponsored by the Foundry organization.

“Playwriting—the Art of the Dialogue” will meet for eight weeks from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. starting Wednesday, Jan. 11 to Feb. 29. Skill with dialogue is the essence of this course. Whether or not playwriting is your main endeavor, every writer who integrates monologue or dialogue in their journal, memoir or fiction writing will benefit from this meaningful focus and enjoyable practice. Class size is limited to six.

Each eight-week series costs $120.

Sandra Rockman has worked in local theater since 1978. She is an actress, playwright and has directed more than 25 productions including this past summer's acclaimed “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.”
