A Bear Yuba Land Trust (formerly Nevada County Land Trust) trek with Julie Carville is happening Saturday. Carville will share her in-depth knowledge of the wildflowers of the local Sierra Nevada.
Trek with her through the Donner Peak wilderness area as she points out the various families of flowers, their preferences and peculiarities, and adaptability to the harsh and varied environments of our granitic mountains.
Be prepared to get down on your belly, getting up-close and personal with the flowers — extra points for pollen on your chin! To insure you don't miss even a single tiny flower, magnifying loops are recommended (available at the Earth Store in Nevada City).
This outing was so popular that they're doing it again.
Julie Carville is a writer, photographer, lecturer and botanist/naturalist, and has led wildflower field classes for over 30 years. She is the author of “Hiking Tahoe's Wildflower Trails,” (also known as “Lingering in Tahoe's Wild Gardens”), a contributing author of “California's Wild Gardens,” and co-author of “Wildflowers of Nevada & Placer Counties” and the forthcoming book, “Trees, Shrubs & Woody Vines of Nevada & Placer Counties.”
