A Grass Valley man allegedly was driving drunk when he crashed head-on into another vehicle on Highway 174.
Patrick Anderson, 60, was driving a Nissan pickup northbound on Highway 174 near Edgewood Drive at about 5:13 p.m. Thursday, according to a report from the California Highway Patrol.
Anderson allegedly was driving erratically and then crossed the double-yellow center line directly in front of a Jeep driven by Bill Durant, 67, of Sacramento. Durant braked but could not avoid the head-on collision, the report said.
Anderson was taken by helicopter to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition. He was charged with driving under the influence and causing bodily injury.
Durant was taken to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries, treated and released.
