What does the church have to say?

Regarding the man who allegedly tortured an opossum to death, and filmed it for posterity: I'd like to ask his fellow church members what they plan to do about it. Mormons pride themselves on looking out for their own. Presumably some have called the DA asking for leniency. Will they be doing something more useful, such as insisting on counseling, at the very least? What this man, not boy, did was so far beyond the bounds of civilized behavior that psychological intervention is clearly necessary. Will his church step up for what's right? Many of us will be watching and hoping that they do.
