Bear River's Jessica Marso qualified for state with a third place finish in the girls Sac-Joaquin Section wrestling tournament in Stockton this past weekend.
Marso was one of four Lady Bruin wrestlers competing at McNair High School for the opportunity to advance to the girls' state tournament. This year's tournament was the first time Bear River had so many girls competing in the tournament and also the first a top four finish meant a competitor qualified for state.
The senior Marso won her first match by forfeit when her opponent Edison High School's coach coach called the match before her wrestler got pinned. Marso was ahead on points 12-2 at that point and had her opponent in a half nelson.
She followed it up a pinfall victory in the second round and wrestled her way to a third place medal in the finals.
Other Bruin competitors included: Darlene Julian, Corrie Friesen and Corinne Bjornaas.
Marso, Julian and Friesen only lost once which allowed them to advance beyond the opening day, Friday.
