Art Works Gallery, a co-op art gallery in downtown Grass Valley, announces the kickoff of the “Artists In Action” demonstration series. Once a month, gallery artists will demonstrate their craft as a free service to the public.
The first in the demonstration series will feature ceramic artists Rene Sprattling and Brad Carter on Saturday, Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the gallery. Sprattling will demonstrate how to throw a vase, assemble a teapot and may take requests from the audience. Carter will be throwing and trimming bowls and creating a large two-part garden planter.
Sprattling, an Art Works Gallery founder and co-owner of the former Mostly Clay gallery in Nevada City states, “we are doing this to bring awareness to the ancient craft of pottery-making and hope to draw interest from the public - especially young people - to get involved in this art form. I am also doing it because I love bringing drama to the stage, and it is a dramatic process.”
Sprattling and Carter are two of the 35 member/artists displaying their work in the Art Works Gallery, which exhibits a high-quality collection of artwork in jewelry, furniture, paintings, photography, ceramics, fiber arts, woodwork, mixed media and sculpture. The Art Works Gallery is open daily and located at 113 Mill Street in Grass Valley. For more information about Art Works Gallery, go to www.artworksgallery
