Longtime Chicago Park postal employee Lynn D. Hershey will be sworn in as the Chicago Park Post office postmaster at 11:30 a.m. Friday.
Hershey, 49, began her postal career in Gold Run in 1997 and worked as a part-time postal clerk in Chicago Park from 1999 to 2009. She had been the Officer-in-Charge in Chicago Park for more than a year.
“A postmaster is at the heart of a community,” Hershey said in a prepared statement. “Not only the mail, but sometimes it's a smile of encouragement. I want to serve the community, to help people grow their business through our business.”
Hershey had reached out to the community, inviting the Chicago Park Garden Club to plant flowers outside the post office.
Chicago Park is a two-person post office with a daily mail volume of 9,040 pieces, that delivers to more than 850 post office boxes.
