Weldon Travis of Rough and Ready stands in front of the Rough and Ready Post Office Wednesday afternoon. Travis supports the Post Office's decision to stay in Rough and Ready. Employees at the office were notified by building owner Sue Steele this week that the U.S. Postal Service signed a lease for five years to keep the office open. “I want to thank you and all the residents who worked to save the Rough and Ready Post Office,” Steele said in a letter posted at the office. In 2009, the Postal Service debated closing the office, which is open five days a week and employs one clerk and one carrier. Rough and Ready has had a post office for more than 100 years.
