Cement Hill Water Supply Project
NID's board held public hearings Wednesday for eminent domain proceedings in two pipeline projects.• Board members voted to move forward with eminent domain proceedings on a land parcel along the Cement Hill Water Supply Project.
Fourteen property owners off Daisy Blue Mine Road consented to NID installing the pipeline on their property. In the final parcel, owned by a separated couple, one party had agreed to the pipeline and the other was uncooperative and unresponsive after numerous NID overtures.
The Cement Hill project will improve infrastructure and install 58,000 linear feet of piping north of Nevada City, including 55 fire hydrants.
Lower Cascade Canal/Banner Cascade Pipeline Project
• Board members heard concerns from property owners affected by the Lower Cascade Canal/Banner Cascade Pipeline Project, but deferred action until the Aug. 24 board meeting.Property owners Jim and Elizabeth Chambers said the board's initial offer to pay $700 for an easement was “insulting;” a second, NID-funded appraisal said the easement was worth $15,000.
NID plans to cut down several shade trees on the Chambers' property.
NID and the Chambers are still negotiating the price, and NID officials said they would reconsider the tree-cutting.
The Lower Cascade Canal/Banner Cascade Pipeline Project involves installing both raw water and treated water pipelines southeast of downtown Nevada City.
