Grass Valley native Lynn Roath will celebrate his 60th birthday Wednesday by opening a new business.
“Most people are winding down at 60,” Roath said Tuesday. “I'm winding up.”
Sierra Nevada Auctions will hold its first sale starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, at 443 Crown Point Circle, Suite B, Grass Valley, CA 95945. It's in the Whispering Pines business area between Idaho-Maryland Road and Brunswick Road.
Roath, who now lives in Chicago Park, takes goods on consignment. He recently completed an auction course in Missouri, after working in other fields — including making linotype for The Union decades ago.
“You bring it, and we sell it for you,” Roath said. “We have everything from sewing machines to furniture, including dining room sets and a curio cabinet.”
Anyone wanting to help him celebrate his birthday is invited to have homemade cake and ice cream at the venue at 5:30 p.m. today. Roath's wife, Linda Roath, is a professional pastry chef and is baking three cakes, he said.
To sell goods at coming auctions, contact Roath at (530) 272-3918 or fax (530) 272-3587.
