The last time Coleman Huntley took to the mound against El Dorado, the Pioneer Valley League's first-place team, Bear River's junior right-hander fell one run short of knocking off the Cougars.
This time around, Huntley and the Bruins turned the tables on El Dorado, emerging with a 3-2 victory Friday to take sole possession of second place in the PVL.
The loss was just the second all season for the Cougars, who are now 23-2 overall and 10-1 in league.
“(Huntley) has just got their number,” said Bear River coach Dahrol Ennis. “They're a great hitting team, but they only got five hits (Friday).”
Huntley, who threw the complete game, totaled nine strikeouts while allowing one earned run.
The game stood tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh, when Andy Brooding hit a two-out single to left. After stealing second, Brooding then scored on a gapper to right-center field by Bear River's Zach Welz for the game-winner.
Welz went 3-for-4 on the day, while Brandon Fry had an RBI double and Michael Lucas also had a base hit and an RBI.
Bear River (12-11 overall, 5-3 PVL) took over second place with the win, after Placer fell to Whitney 14-4 Friday. The Bruins, who still have four games to go, host Mesa Verde Monday.
Bear River's JV team defeated El Dorado 3-1 Friday, improving to 16-5 on the season.

At the junior varsity level, Demi Seghezzi placed third to reach the finals, while Taylor Day was seventh. Grady Navo was third for the boys junior varsity.

Reina also provided all offense the Lady Bruins would need with a fourth-inning home run, just the fourth homer ever hit out of the Bear River ballpark.
Stephanie Ceo added a bunt single for Bear River, which improved to 19-3 overall and 9-1 in league to set up Tuesday's showdown for first place with host Lincoln. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
