Luke Manuel's junior season at Purdue University officially came to an end Friday night at the Qwest Center in Omaha, Neb., but not before the former Nevada Union High School star secured a place in Boilermaker history.

Wrestling his third-straight overtime match in the 174-pound division of the NCAA Wrestling National Championships, Manuel defeated Ohio State's David Rella 4-2 in a tiebreaker to claim his 41st victory of the season.

That win gives Manuel (41-6) the single-season record for most victories ever by a Purdue University wrestler, surpassing the mark set by Boilermakers Alex Coriano and Tony Vaughn in 1996, according to the school's Web site.

After the victory, though, Manuel was eliminated from the tournament in the next round, falling to Ohio's Jacob Ison in a 7-5 decision to finish his third appearance at NCAA national championships with a 2-2 overall record.

In addition to owning the Boilermakers' single-season win record, Manuel also recorded his 100th takedown of the season. He is the 14th Boiler to accomplish the feat and moved into 15th in the all-time career takedown list with 217.
