It was a banner first day for Stik-It, the new kabob restaurant that opened today in the building formerly occupied by Nevada City's Tortilla Grill.
“Today was great — the public was absolutely wonderful,” said co-owner and general manager Erica Robison, who managed the Tortilla Grill restaurants under the previous owner.
When the Mexican food spot on Commercial Street shut its doors, Robison considered what was missing in town.
“I thought, ‘This is Nevada City. What we need is good, sustainable food,” she said.
Stik-It serves kabobs, wraps, salads and soups using Robison's own recipes and as much organic, local produce as possible. The fare is not exactly Mediterranean, she said, because the kabob marinade is made with guava.
Patrons order at the counter and servers bring the meals to the restaurant's dining room tables.
The kabob shop is located next to Cafe Mekka at 239 Commercial Street and is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Call Stik-It at (530) 264-7154.
