Editor's note: Lorri Kohlmeister, one of three partners who own The Copper Top Lounge in downtown Grass Valley, talks about her popular dance-and-music venue. The partners also own Pete's Pub Style Pizza up the street.
What goods or services do you offer?
We are a full-service, sophisticated cocktail and music lounge.We offer an intimate space with a beautiful atmosphere and amazing libations and food where we host private events, weekly live music, poetry nights, special performances and private meetings.
What makes you different from other lounges?
No one else in Nevada County is doing what we do!The Copper Top is warm and welcoming and provides a unique, comfortable atmosphere with artwork from local artists, housemade cocktails and a great wine list featuring local and international wines.
Our music lineup is a blend of many genres you may not find at other venues. Customers say it “feels like we are in a friend's living room.”
What's new?
We now offer day use for meetings and private events. We also offer a full menu from Pete's Pub Style Pizza and have a new Web site.
What do you love about your work?
We love making the community feel at ease in our space and bringing in high-quality music, drinks and food.
What do you find most challenging?
Overcoming the reputation of past businesses in our location. Also, we are not easy to find.
What is your background?
• Phillip Oyung is a Nevada County native with a background in engineering and real estate. He loves to hang out and chat about the history of the bar and Nevada County.• Aaron Flores is a Napa Valley native who has managed and worked for restaurants, clubs and bars in San Francisco, Sonoma and Napa. He graduated from ACT in San Francisco.
• Lorri Kohlmeister has been in California for 25 years and has a background in real estate development and hospitality. She graduated from Marin Community College.
