Nevada County residents Robin Milam and Michael Stone are leading a small delegation to participate in the Peoples' World Conference on Climate Change and Mother Earth's Rights in Bolivia in April.
President Evo Morales of Bolivia called for the conference in response to the lack of significant commitments by major world leaders at the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Milam said.
In Bolivia, 16 principal working groups will consider a broad spectrum of topics and questions related to climate change.
Milam and Stone will be covering the conference for local community radio station KVMR, based in Nevada City.
A benefit event to support the local delegation on their trip will be held March 13 at St. Joseph's Cultural Center, Grass Valley.
The evening will feature international singer-song writer Maniko, local singer Gracie MacKenzie, world music by DJ Divine (Stone), Bolivian rainforest photos by Eli Rush, and presentations by Milam and Stone.
Events will include a silent auction with items including vacation getaways, jewelry, dinners, wine, massages, body work and work parties.
The event is from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at St. Joseph's Cultural Center, 410 S. Church St., Grass Valley. Admission a $15 donation; tickets are at BriarPatch or Harmony Books. Bring an appetizer to share.
