Google says it wants to pilot a technology for lightning-fast Internet access, and Nevada City says it wants to be the guinea pig.
The search engine giant invited communities to submit creative videos on why they are the best candidate for the Google Fiber for Communities project, which promises the infrastructure for Internet access 100 times faster than DSL or cable.
Preliminary plans call for a road-closing parade on Sunday, March 13, in Nevada City to be the backdrop of the video. John Paul and Chip Carman, co-owners of Spiral Internet, are organizing the effort.
A planning meeting for the publicity stunt is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, in City Hall at 317 Broad St. Organizers are inviting all members of the public who are seriously interested in the project.
