More rain and snow is in store for Nevada County this week from two new weather systems predicted to pass through the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service in Sacramento.
The first system is expected to bring rain to the foothills tonight through tonight, with high temperatures in the low 50s to high 40s and night lows in the mid-30s.
The system from the Gulf of Alaska also is expected to bring snow levels down to 4,000 feet, today, causing the weather service to issue a travel warning for the Sierra through this evening. The storm could bring about 7 inches of new snow at that level and even more at the highest elevations.
Anyone traveling in the mountains should bring water, food, warm clothing and a flashlight. Drivers should call the California road information line just before leaving at (800) 427-7623.
After break in the clouds is expected Wednesday, and a weaker system is anticipated Thursday, with foothill rain and upper Sierra snow likely that evening. A chance for rain and snow will remain through Friday night, with partly cloudy conditions expected for the weekend in northeastern California.
