One hundred years after Grass Valley shop owners formed an organization to help each other and promote business for all, members of the Grass Valley/Nevada County Chamber of Commerce celebrated their accomplishments.
Festivities included a musical tribute to one of the area's historic characters, Lola Montez, in a performance of songs from Off Broadstreet Theater's “Waiting For Lola,” a musical written and directed by John Driscoll.
The celebration was held late Thursday at the Gold Miners Inn - Holiday Inn Express in downtown Grass Valley.
Master of Ceremonies for the event was Jay Cooper, who served as president of the board in 1974 and again in 1981. The Rev. Toby Nelson, who recently returned from a mission in Haiti, delivered the invocation.

Members of the Grass Valley City Council, Nevada County Board of Supervisors, Sierra College Board and Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Board also attended.
The audience included 18 past chamber presidents.
Jennifer Maier, who works with her father, Mike Bratton, at his State Farm Insurance office, received the Ambassador of the Year award.
Members also installed their 2010 board of directors: Chairwoman Anita Daniels, Citizens Bank of Northern California; Larry Ingersoll, Placer Title Insurance Co.; Machen MacDonald, ProBrilliance; Paul Sieving, Century 21 Gold Dust Realty; Robin Milam, WSI Marketing; Robert Brocke, Foothill Car Care; Kevin Garrity, DMZ Marketing; Patti Ingram Spencer, Placer Title Insurance; Eleanor Kenitzer, Idaho-Maryland Mine Corp.; Elizabeth MacKenzie, Little Friends Child Development Center; Kathryn Medieros, Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital; Bob Medlyn, Beam Easy Living Center; and Steve Young, Holiday Inn Express.
