The body of a Grass Valley woman was found early Thursday along Interstate 80 in Roseville.
Vickie Janell Scott, 47, apparently was the victim of a hit-and-run driver, but the California Highway Patrol had released very little information as of press time.
The CHP received a call reporting a body in the roadway just before 4:30 a.m., said Officer David Montijo. Scott's body was found in the far right lane of westbound I-80, just west of Eureka Road.
“She was obviously deceased,” he said. “She suffered some severe trauma to her body.”
The right lane of the freeway was shut down for a short time so that officers could investigate the scene, but the road was clear by 6:45 a.m.
Investigators might have more information to release today, Montijo said.
According to a reader comment posted on TheUnion.com, which could not be confirmed, Scott had gotten off work at Thunder Valley Casino off Highway 65 in Lincoln and had not been able to get a ride home.
