Fawn Burnham Emmerling, a 46-year resident of Grass Valley, died Dec. 13.
An informal memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, at Banner Grange on La Barr Meadows Road.
She was born Jan. 30, 1914, in Salt Lake City one of 11 children of Carlton and Sarah Belle Burnham. The family moved to Logan, Utah, where she had many pleasant memories of growing up as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
When she was a teenager, the family moved to Los Angeles, where she graduated from Eagle Rock High School in 1931.
She married Austin Emmerling Sr. in 1933.
Mrs. Emmerling worked full time after graduating from high school, eventually obtaining work through the Los Angeles Civil Service, advancing to executive secretary for the chairman of the Los Angeles City Council. She retired in 1963.
She was an avid bridge player, attaining the level of national grand master. She was a member of the Nevada County Duplicate Bridge Club. She was also an accomplished knitter, winning several Best of Show awards for knitting at the Nevada County Fair.
She will be remembered with love and affection.
Mrs. Emmerling is survived by two sons, Austin of Nevada City, and Robert of Manhattan Beach; and six nephews, four nieces, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and 10 siblings.
