Patricia Ann Alspaugh died of heart failure on Monday, Dec. 21, at Golden Empire Convalescent Home in Grass Valley. She was 88.
A memorial service will be held in March at Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, Nev. Cremation took place under the direction of the Neptune Society.
She was born on Dec. 19, 1921, in Toledo, Ohio, to Hanora (Brophy) and Leo Benedict Carlisle. Her ancestors came from England in 1663, settling in Connecticut. Her family participated in the underground railroad in Ohio.
Men in her line served in the Revolutionary War, Civil War and World War 1.
She was raised a Catholic and attended Notre Dame Academy for girls in Toledo.
She married James Alspaugh on Jan. 3, 1939, in Toledo.
Mrs. Alspaugh was an accomplished seamstress, cook, golfer, reader, singer and pianist.
She was a 20-year member of St. John Catholic Church in Fenton, Mich. In Grass Valley, she attended services every Sunday at Abundant Life Community Church. She loved the church and all its members, who were so kind to her.
She volunteered at the Golden Empire Pink Lady Auxiliary. She was a friend to everyone she met and never turned a stranger away. A person in need was someone for her to take care of.
Mrs. Alspaugh loved her country. She was so proud of her seven children, 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Alspaugh is survived by daughters Diane (David) Fell, of Nevada; Beth (John) Seen, of Hawaii; Mary (Steaven) Lingo, of California; and Cindy (Wesley Turner) Alspaugh, of Nevada; and brothers, James (Nancy) Carlisle, of Michigan, and William (Mary Ann) Carlisle, of Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James, on Nov. 11, 2000; and sons, James R. Alspaugh and Tyler Alspaugh.
She also is survived by grandchildren Gregory (Catherine) Fell, of Connecticut; Tani (Mitchell) Alspaugh Edelson, of Oregon; Bradley (Melanie) Fell, of California; Chris Senn, of Hawaii; Joshua (Kimberly) Lingo, of Arizona; Brandon (Kimberly) Senn, of Grass Valley; Anna (Matthew) Mhoon, of Montana; Cathy (Norman) Nye, of Arizona; William Alspaugh, of Colorado; Matthew Alspaugh, of Washington; Jennifer (Jean-Paul) Beaubien, of Florida; daughter-in-law, Judy Alspaugh, of Nevada; 20 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
