In a 4-0 vote the Nevada County Board of Supervisors chose a candidate for the assessor's position who said he won't seek the office through election next year.
Jim Dal Bon won the assessor's position at a Tuesday meeting over Jim Blashford of Lake of the Pines after some board members said they'd be more comfortable with an assessor who wouldn't seek to run again after Dale Flippin's term expires on Dec. 26.
“Mr. Dal Bon, you can fill the position and not be distracted by running for election,” said Supervisor John Spencer.
Recusing himself from the vote was District 5 supervisor Ted Owens, who recently announced his interest in running for the next assessor term which begins in January 2011.
A former assessor-recorder in Marin County, Dal Bon said he wouldn't run for the seat once he finished Flippin's term. The outgoing assessor plans to retire after nine years of service.
