Neva Edna Jones went to sleep in Jesus Oct. 5 in Grass Valley, awaiting her Savior's promised return. She was 98.
Private services have been held.
Mrs. Jones was born August 14, 1911, in a log cabin to C. Frank Waters and Edna May (Scott) Waters in San Benito. The oldest of eight children, she spent her early years living on her parents' ranch. She learned to love growing plants and flowers and always had a tender heart for animals.
She moved to the Bay Area to complete her last two years of high school, graduating in 1930. She completed her nursing degree from St. Helena Hospital in 1933, followed by special training in obstetrics. She ministered as a registered nurse for her entire career and retired from Glendale Adventist Hospital in 1976.
She married Merwin A.R. Jones in 1943. As a pastor's wife, she spent her married life by his side in Southern California, living in Glendale for many years.
They retired to Nevada County in 1979.
Mrs. Jones loved babies and delighted in watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.
She lived for a time in Yountville at a senior retirement home where she was a member of the Signs Memorial Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She recently returned to Grass Valley to be near her daughter.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her children, Russ (Lynn) Jones of Arcata and Kathleen (Gary) Amatangelo of Penn Valley; grandchildren, Marty (Amber) Jones, Ryan (Abigail) Jones, Erica (Jesse) Hindbaugh, Blake (Elizabeth) Amatangelo and Laurel Amatangelo; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Lorna Mae James of Loma Linda, and Jean McConnell of Rancho Cordova; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Sheryl Ann; her husband, Merwin; siblings Lorne Waters, Kenneth Waters, Shirley Morgan, Bea Truman and Karyl Waters.
