Sue Horne
Former Nevada County Supervisor Sue Horne said she is “taking a serious look” at running for assessor in June 2010.
“I haven't made a final decision,” Horne said Tuesday. “The idea of being able to serve again full-time is something I want to take a close look at.”
So far, District 5 Supervisor Ted Owens of the Truckee area is the only one who has announced he would run for the post Assessor Dale Flippin will vacate at the end of the year.
The county will fill Flippin's final year of a four-year term that ends in December 2010. The county is receiving applications to fill the post temporarily, and the supervisors will make the final choice.
Horne was supervisor from the county's southwestern District 2 from 2001 through 2008. She ran for the Republican nomination for the state Assembly in the 2008 primary, but lost to Dan Logue of Yuba County.
Owens, also a Republican, endorsed Logue during that election.
When told of Horne's candidacy Tuesday, Owens said, “That's part of the democratic process, and I think it would make for a very interesting race.”
Owens and fellow Supervisors Nate Beason, John Spencer and Hank Weston also did not endorse Horne's choice to succeed her in the 2008 District 2 race. That was businessman Alan Kilborn, who lost to Supervisor Ed Scofield.
Both the assessor and supervisor posts are nonpartisan.
