Nevada County Land Trust and Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital have come together in an effort to provide the general public with a non-strenuous activity that promotes the health benefits derived from a walking program. Through a generous grant of $300, the Land Trust will be able to reach more people with opportunity to join the fun of group warm-ups and guided walks with friends both old and new. This is a great way to stay healthy while enjoying the gift of natures many different expressions.
A new trek leader
Andy Gonzales is the new leader of the Treks for Health Walking Program. Andy grew up in the small mountainous town of Iowa Hill just east of Colfax where he fell in love with his surroundings whether hiking or running. His enthusiasm for health and exercise blends well with his interest in land preservation, trail building and the conservation of open spaces.
The scheduled walks will be offered every fourth Tuesday morning and are designed to take place in a group setting lasting from 45 minutes to one hour. Meet in the lobby of the Outpatient Building at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital at 9 a.m. for carpooling to the trailhead. A suggested $5 donation is appreciated and will benefit the Land Trust programs to protect and preserve open spaces and build community trails.
